Up on that stage, the manicure sang its praise to several current nail trends as well. We’re talking red nail theory, the ombré French, hints of gold chrome, and diamond embellishments. Ishizu gave the red and midnight-purple colorway a glaring contrast by placing pieces of tiny gold foil directly atop a final coat of OPI’s GelColor Stay Shiny Top Coat. As for the base of the nails, Ishizu hand-drew a few blue dots and white dainty lines.

From the neck down, though, the People’s Champion honoree truly was a vision in blue. All the hues incorporated in her manicure translated into her Alexander McQueen gown. Tangy red embroidery hemmed the bodice and cobalt blue accentuated the train of the dress. Ishizu’s final touch of gold flakes complemented Lizzo’s gold jewelry and hair accessories laced within her stellar fauxhawk.

Demi Lovato‘s hair has undergone quite a transformation through the years. The Disney Channel alum has colored her hair with a ton of glorious shades, and has experimented with just as many haircuts. Now, just in time for 2023,  she’s trimmed her jet-black, grown-out pixie cut into a gorgeous choppy shag.

Lovato arrived at the 2022 UNICEF Gala on November 29 in an off-the-shoulder, black-and-white gown and her piece-y new short hairstyle. Her grown-out length might even make the cut a qualified bixie — a popular ’90s haircut that’s both a bob and a pixie — but an edgier, more modern take on the style. Her side-swept bangs covered her eyebrows almost completely, and her strands were styled with added volume, lift, and a bit of texture for extra movement. This is a big change for the “Confident” musician, who chopped off her dark hair and dyed it blonde in November 2020, rocking an undercut and later a bowl cut.

Dr. Meredith Grey is leaving the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Actor Ellen Pomepo, who has played the dynamite doctor for a whopping 19 seasons of the ABC hit, is saying goodbye to her onscreen alter ego and Grey’s Anatomy, and she made the official announcement with an equally show-stopping beauty look.

Pompeo shared the news of her departure with fans on Instagram, saying she was “eternally grateful and humbled” by the love she’d gotten from Grey’s viewers since the show premiered in 2005. “Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!” she wrote, adding that it may not be the final appearance of her beloved character. (After all, no one really leaves or dies on a soapy nighttime drama like Grey’s.) “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit.”

While we’re bummed to see Dr. Grey taking her leave of the Seattle hospital where she fell in love and saved lives, we’re all about the selfie moment Pompeo paired with her big news. The actor wore her hair in collarbone-length, honey blonde beach waves with a darker smudge root, made extra sunshine-y by her marigold yellow turtleneck sweater. Her signature perfectly arched brows were ready for their big moment in the spotlight, as was her subtle smoky grey (get it?) eyeshadow. A few flicks of mascara, some peachy-pink blush and just a touch of lip color were the cherry on top of this naturally chic look. Nearly 2 million people agree, as Pompeo’s post continues to rack up the likes and comments. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later, right?

Leave it to Keke Palmer to bring back one of the biggest go-to hairstyling trends from my middle school years: pinned-back bangs! Palmer was one of the star speakers at the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles on November 12, discussing her acting process alongside Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Versha Sharma, with whom she talked about how she implements improvisation into her characters and roles.

The actor hit the stage in a black and white printed maxi dress and cropped black tuxedo jacket, wearing minimal makeup save for some glowy bronze shadow on her lids and a pop of peach blush. Palmer wore her hair in a shoulder-length, curled blowout with her bangs pulled up and secured with a black clip for a cute, casual style that was absolutely the pinnacle of chic in the mid-2000s — not to mention functional when you’re growing out your bangs or just want to keep your hair out of your face. While the pinned-back bangs may have been a major look for fourth-period algebra or after-school cheer practice, they’re also a simple way to change up your look day to day and equally versatile when you’re long past the days of lockers and lunch rooms.

Megan Thee Stallion‘s latest hair and makeup look are literally good enough to eat. The rapper, who has been living the redhead life throughout the fall, took her luscious cherry curls to the next level and paired them with an equally delicious makeup look featuring a tiny but striking detail: cherry-shaped face gems. Megan showed off the teeny gems in a series of selfies shared on her Instagram Stories, and I definitely need to copy this sweet beauty treat.

Megan applied the fruity gemstones atop one cheekbone, right underneath her warm golden peach eye makeup look with defined creases and a pop of shimmery beige at her inner corners. She lined both her top and bottom lash lines all the way up to her waterline and applied a strip of fluttery lashes to enhance her signature cat eye. Underneath the cherry gems, Megan wore a subtle rosy pink blush with a hint of contour to sculpt her cheeks and finished off the glamorous look with lined lips topped with a shiny gloss; it’s a classic Megan Thee Stallion makeup look with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cheeky detail.

Villalobos also used wigs to create the blonde bouffants for Kerry Washington in The School for Good and Evil. “The wig took six weeks to make, and part of that is the [blonde] color, which took an additional week,” she said, noting that she chose that particular style to reflect the storyline of the character. “I wanted [Professor] Dovey to be lighter and fun because she’s from the good school, not the evil school. I also wanted to show texture in her hair.”

The film was shot in Ireland, and Villalobos remarked on how diverse the hair and makeup crew was: “When Kerry and I got to Ireland and I saw the beautiful styles and diverse nationalities. I was so happy to be part of this.” Villalobos, who has worked with Washington on multiple projects over the years, expressed how actors and producers are key to helping create a diverse team behind the scenes. “Kerry and Marlon [Wayans], those two actors are also producers and they advocate for diverse sets.”

When the film credits are all locked, an actor must tour the film with red carpet events around the world. That’s where makeup artists like Jessica Smalls come in. She works with Janelle Monae, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Lashana Lynch to create looks for the red carpet, another type of specialized skill. “I never try a new product on the red carpet,” she said. “I know how everything reacts to weather and light. I don’t use liquid lipstick. I use lip liner as a base, then lipstick. It’s key to having long-lasting makeup on the red carpet.”
